HOOK: #2, 6, 10 Tiemco 8089.
THREAD: 100 denier Ultra GSP.
TAIL: Zonker rabbit strip.
COLLAR: Marabou with a deer-hair topping.
BODY: Deer body hair.
EYES: Wapsi 7mm or 10mm doll eyes, glued on with Zap-A-Dap-A-Goo II.
Cat Step 1
Tie a 3- to 4-inch Zonker strip to the hook shank directly above the hook point.
Cat Step 2
Add a marabou collar directly on top of the previous thread wraps. The collar should wrap 360 degrees around the hook shank and extend past the hook bend.
Cat Step 3
On top of the collar, pinch-wrap and tie on a slip of deer-hair tips about the same length as the marabou collar.
Cat Step 4
Spin two to four bunches (depending on hook size) of hollow deer body hair around the hook shank, from rear to front, being careful not to crowd the hook eye.
Cat Step 5
Use a double-edged razor blade to flatten the bottom of the fly in one clean cut. Use curved scissors to trim the rest of the body to shape. Glue on 7mm or 10mm doll eyes with Zap-A-Dap-A-Goo II. Use clear Hard Head Fly Finish from Loon Outdoors to harden the flat face of the fly.
