Greg Myerson was not fly fishing when he caught what is likely the largest striped bass ever caught on hook & line, but everyone can appreciate a big fish story now and then. He caught “the beast” using a live 16-inch eel while drifting it near a submerged boulder at Outer Southwest Reef off the coast of Westbrook, Connecticut, around 8 p.m. on August 4.
Myerson continued fishing through the night and weighed the big bass the next morning on a certified scale at Jack’s Shoreline Bait and Tackle. At this point the catch is an unofficial record as Myerson has not submitted details of his catch to International Gamefish Association.
