Recipe: Hook: TMC 2487 #16-24 Thread: 70 Denier Black Rib: Fine Copper Wire Head: Black Superfine Dubbing
Start the thread just behind the hook eye. Tie in a piece of copper wire at the front of the hook.
Wrap back over the wire forming a smooth body back to about halfway down the hook bend. Return the thread to the starting point.
Spiral wrap the wire forward over the body to the front and tie off. Break off the excess wire.
Dub a small ball of dubbing at the head behind the eye. Whip finish and clip the thread.
Great fly to teach to new tiers and have them catch fish to boost their confidence. I teach fly tying to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and use these types of patterns all of the time. This is a really easy and deadly pattern, indeed.
