Start the thread at the midpoint on the shank and make a thread base back to the bend. Dub an elongated oval shaped ball for the rear of the ant, being careful to keep this on the back end of the hook.
Tie in a black rooster hackle just on front of the rear segment.
Wrap the hackle about three or four turns and tie off. Clip the excess hackle.
Make a thread base on the front end of the shank.
Build another smaller ball of dubbing just in front of the hackle. Whip finish and clip the thread.
