Gang of Thieves Targets Fly Shops

Boulder police have arrested one of four suspects in a string of fly-rod thefts around the Denver metro area last year.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Boulder police believe Dytlow was part of a group of four people — two men and two women—who stole 13 fly rods and other equipment worth roughly $11,500 from Denver-area fly shops on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3.

Boulder’s Rocky Mountain Anglers, 1904 Arapahoe Ave., lost four rods valued at roughly $2,900. According to the affidavit, the four suspects all spoke with European accents. One of the men kept an employee occupied and made some small purchases. The next day, the store noticed the missing inventory.

The hardest hit store was Charlie’s Fly Box, 7513 Grandview Ave., Arvada, which lost six fishing rods valued at $3,995. The thieves also are suspected of hitting stores in Denver, Littleton, Highlands Ranch and Parker.

By the time a group matching the thieves’ description came into the Laughing Grizzly, 10675 Ute Highway, in Longmont, around noon Feb. 3, the owner knew about the rash of thefts. He confronted the group, took a picture of one of the men and took down their vehicle description and license plate number.

Sylwia Dytlow, a Polish national who is known by a number of other aliases, originally was arrested by Chicago police in a separate theft case and extradited to Boulder on an outstanding warrant. It is believed the group was selling the stolen merchandise on-line from Chicago.

This sort of thing is happening all over the place especially these eastern europeans. I live in the UK and they have the ability to arrive here very easily being part of the EU. They are always in the news here for theft and other things. Send them back to where they belong.

I too live in the UK and it is wrong to tar all Eastern Europeans with the same brush. There are some very hard working individuals and families that have arrived in the UK from Eastern Europe. If everybody was "sent back to where they belong" the USA would belong to the Amercian Indian.
