How to Tie a Trico Spinner Fly: Step-By-Step Guide

Here's how to tie the Trico Spinner Fly; a step-by-step video guide by expert tier Charlie Craven.

Trico Spinner Materials:

  • Hook: TMC 2488 #20-28Thread: Lagartun 74 Denier Black
  • Tail: Microfibetts
  • Abdomen: Tying thread
  • Wing: White McFlylon
  • Thorax: Black Superfine Dubbing

Tying The Trico Spinner

Tying The Trico Spinner Step 1 of 5

Start the thread and wrap back to the bend. Clip three Microfibetts from the clump and measure them against the hooks they are three shank lengths long. Tie the tails in at the bend and wrap forward over the butt ends. Press your thumbnail up under the tails to splay them out. Bring the thread back to the bend and figure eight around the tails to separate them.

Wrap the thread forward to the seventy-five percent point forming the abdomen. Clip the butt ends of the tails.

Tying The Trico Spinner Step 3 of 5

Tie in a piece of McFlylon with figure eight wraps for the wings at the front of the abdomen.

Tying The Trico Spinner Step 4 of 5

Dub the thorax around the base of the wings and both in front and back of them. Whip finish and clip the thread.

Clip the wings to a shank length long.
