PC Slider
Gene Trump Photo

Hook: #2 Mustad 34011.
Thread: Black.
Tail: Pearl Flashabou.
Flare: White Super Hair.
Hackle: White and black Body Fur.
Body: White EdgeWater #2 Spinster with upper body painted black.
Eyes: Yellow or green solid plastic stem or 6mm stick-on.

Slider or driver type bugs are designed to float when at rest or during short, slow retrieves and dive, or slide under the surface when subjected to long, fast retrieves. Because of the double-duty these bugs provide, I like to spray-paint the back section a darker color than the belly. I figure if the fish has an opportunity to see both the top and bottom, I'll add a touch more realism to represent a struggling baitfish or some manner of prey a bass would love to eat.

The bodies are pre-drilled for adding stem-type eyes but you can use 3-D type (as I've done) instead.

Step 1. Paint and add eyes to the body and set aside. Secure the hook in the vise, tie on the thread and rubber leg material. Build a shank base just above and forward of the hook point with thread and rubber leg material wraps. Use wide wraps for the rubber leg material.

Step 2. Tie-in the flashabou as a tail that extends a distance about the same as the hook shank length. Tie-in an inch or so of Body Fur.

Step 3. Make 1 wrap with the Body Fur, tie-off and trim away excess. Wet your fingers and stroke the fibers to the rear as needed.

Step 4. Use cross-wraps to tie-in about 4 inches of Super Hair. Careful not to tie-in too far forward. Use a drop of Super Glue on the thread wraps to lock the fibers in place.

Step 5. Tie-in a length of white Body Fur just ahead of the Super Hair.

Step 6. Make 1 wrap with the Body Fur. Tie-off, trim away excess. Whip-finish. Coat the rubber and thread shank wraps with gel-type super glue.

Step 7. Very slowly push the body over the hook eye and to the rear with a twisting motion. As the body nose clears the hook eye, the butt end of the body should have forced the synthetic hackle and Super Hair rearward. If you didn't tie the Super Hair strands too far forward, the strands should flare out at 45 degrees. The gel-type Super Glue is slow drying so you do have a little time to reposition the synthetic hackle and Super Hair as needed before the glue sets up. Trim the flare fibers so they extend about the same distance as the body length.
