“They’re baaaaack!” Abel hasn’t manufactured pliers since 2021, but that hasn’t been a problem for me since my old satin blue Abel pliers have been around the world to the Seychelles, Mexico, Cape Cod, California, and numerous Florida tarpon trips since then. A dependable pair of pliers is an invaluable tool for tightening knots in 80-pound shock tippet, for clamping down hook barbs, and countless other tasks.

My Abel pliers are among my most prized saltwater companions but the new 2025 Abel pliers take the durability and reliability of “old faithful” to another level with an updated design that increases their longevity and durability. Like previous models, the hardened steel jaws are replaceable. In this updated version, the replaceable line cutters can be flipped 180 degrees, so when you flip the cutters, you have a completely new cutter blade on both sides. After a few years of cutting wire for muskies, barracudas, and bluefish, you can flip the jaws and have fresh cutter blades. The “replacement” is built in.

Solid colors black, deep blue, olive, platinum, red, and slate gray are $350. You can mix and match and have two different solid colors for no extra charge. For graphics there is an upcharge. Bass, Flats, Baja, and Northern Lights are an extra $50. Native Rainbow artwork is $75. Bonefish and Classic Tarpon are $137.50 and Native Brown Trout is an additional $172.50 just because of the difficulty and time involved with the complex artwork. The pliers come in a sewn and shaped black leather sheath and with a coiled lanyard with an easy on/off carabiner.
