Abel Reels , in collaboration with onWater Fish , has introduced a customized extension of its Abel Blue Line TR reel that allows anglers to have a personalized map of their chosen river system engraved onto the reel . This new product is part of the Blue Line Project , a joint initiative that also involves Airflo and Trout Unlimited.
The reels utilize Abel’s proprietary CeranoTM Chaos Coating, which combines a ceramic coating with laser engraving. The Abel TR is a lightweight, click-pawl reel designed for trout fishing in small to mid-sized streams.
“We’re proud to be the first to integrate personalized digital cartography with Abel’s precision machining and custom finishing for anglers,” said Jeff Wagner, CEO of Abel Reels, in a press release. “This reel is not only durable and unique, it’s also deeply personal to every angler. It tells your story about your favorite section of river or bend. A huge thanks to OnWater for helping bring this concept to life—their app makes customization seamless and accessible for the entire Abel community.”
The reels are available for purchase through the onWater Fish App, starting at $695, where users select their preferred river and section, and reel color and size. “This is the first time mobile geospatial tech and hard goods have come together like this in the outdoor industry,” said Alex Maier, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Product at onWater. “It’s not just about putting a map on a reel, it’s about creating something lasting and deeply personal.”

The onWater Fish app is a mobile app that aims to be an "all-in-one fishing hub" providing users with detailed maps, real-time fishing data, planning tools, and access information to help them find fishing spots.
A portion of each reel purchase will support Trout Unlimited's efforts in coldwater habitat conservation. The Blue Line Project aims to encourage anglers to explore less-frequented waters and promote environmental stewardship. The initiative also intends to reduce fishing pressure on heavily trafficked rivers.
The reels are available for purchase through the onWater Fish App, starting at $695, where users select their preferred river and section, and reel color and size. The purchase includes a one-year subscription to onWater+, and buyers can add a custom Airflo Blue Line Superflo Universal fly line.
