Landon Mayer is a well-known South Platte River guide, Fly Fisherman magazine contributor, and author of several books including most recently The Hunt for Big Trout but did you know he's also a garbage collector? That's right. He loves picking up garbage . . . as long as it's from along the banks for his beloved South Platte River. For the past three years, Landon Mayer and his fellow garbage aficionado Brandon Kramer have organized a group of volunteers for a major river clean-up starting at the Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area. In 2018, a group of 112 volunteers collected 950 pounds of trash that included old tires, barbed wire, and other rusty metals. This year Mayer and Kramer are hoping for an even bigger turnout to help preserve and protect one of Colorado's finest trout streams.
The 4th Annual Clean the Dream event will be Aug. 10, 2019 from 8 A.M. to 2 P.M. Orange juice, donuts, and trash bags will be provided in the morning, and there will be a BBQ at 2 PM with food and prizes provided by Yeti, Simms, Scientific Anglers, and many other sponsors. Be there!
