Fish Camp's Drift Boat Clinic Course: Cleaning and Storing a Drift Boat

This module shares some information necessary for preserving your boat and reducing the risk of spreading aquatic invasive species.

Editor’s Note: Fly Fisherman will be posting videos weekly produced by our friends at Fish Camp, which offers online fly fishing education anchored in conservation, etiquette, and stewardship, from veteran professional fly-fishing instructors. Check back each Wednesday for a new exclusive video.

The Drift Boat Clinic is a comprehensive course designed to help anglers safely and effectively navigate rivers in a drift boat. Led by Justin Waayenberg, president of Adipose Boatworks, this clinic covers everything from understanding different styles of drift boats to essential skills like loading, unloading, transporting, and mastering boat ramp and river etiquette.

Participants will also learn the fundamentals of rowing and how to use a drift boat as a tool for more productive days on the water. Whether you're new to drift boats or looking to sharpen your skills, this course emphasizes safety, respect for others on the river, and maximizing your fishing experience.

This particular video reminds us that once we're off the water, the work isn't quite done. This module shares some information necessary for preserving your boat and reducing the risk of spreading aquatic invasive species.

Waayenberg is the president and co-owner of Adipose Boatworks of Helena, Montana. A U.S. Army veteran from Michigan, he moved to Montana in 2010 and worked his way up from the shop floor, fueled by a deep passion for fishing and craftsmanship.

He leads Adipose with a strong commitment to conservation, guided by the belief that “it’s not ours, it’s just our turn” to protect wild fish and wild places.
