Kispiox B.C. Steelhead Trip

KispioxKispiox British Columbia

Choice Spey Rod

Our favorite tool for the Kispiox was G.Loomis's new 13' 7/8 Spey rod.

The G. Loomis Man

Bruce Holt, director of communications at G.Loomis. He knows how to have fun and knows how to catch fish! — at Kispiox BC.

Foremost Maker of Bamboo Spey rods

Bob Clay is a former guide on the Kispiox, and now runs a bed & breakfast from a beautiful home on a great steelhead pool. He is the world's foremost maker of bamboo Spey rods. Get in line if you want one: River Watch Rods.

OSG Outcast Commander

The OSG Outcast Commander, 35 pounds, no frame, you can stand up at any time, $1000. These are sweet boats for bumping around on the Kispiox, Bulkley and elsewhere. — at Kispiox BC.

Up He Goes!

Steve Rajeff calmly manages another steelhead.

Good Times

Good times at the Rodeo Grounds pool on the Kispiox. Oh, and Editor Ross Purnell's wife made him this hat.

The Man: Steve Rajeff

Steve Rajeff caught more fish than anyone and often took last spot coming down the pools? Possibly the most polite, friendly, congenial angler around.

Biggest Fish, Third Cast

Biggest fish of the trip was this hog that ate third cast of the morning at Bear Hole. This pool was 200 feet from our camp site at River's Edge Campground run by Allan and Dorothy Weston. (250-842-5822) These are great folks who go out of their way to make people comfortable. $24 per night to live on the best steelhead river in the world? Outstanding. — at Kispiox BC.

Snap-T

Thank you Greg for taking a photo at the precise moment that would make make my Snap-T cast look half decent.

Double Spey

Editor Ross Purnell making a double Spey cast for October steelhead on the upper Kispiox River, British Columbia.

The Biggest Fly Rod

World's largest fly rod in Houston, B.C.

Dedicated Crew

This is possibly the mot dedicated group of steelheaders we've met, yet. They spend about two months in the Skeena watershed (mostly on the Kispiox) and every evening at 5:30 PM they have Happy Hour. Awesome people! — at Kispiox BC.

Last Cast

This is the Sportsman's Hole on the lower Kispiox. Known to regularly give up large steelhead, we fruitlessly worked this hole on a number of afternoons and didn't get a hookup. Still, great water that undoubtedly holds steelhead.

Cruising

Our crew rented a 30-foot motorhome in Vancouver from Cruise Canada, and had the gorgeous country at the perfect time of year. Saw several bears on the drive. — at Kispiox BC.
