Josh Miller is author of the best-selling book Euro Nymphing: Tips, Tactics, and Techniques (2024), guide and owner of the Trout Yeah Guide Service, and head coach of the US Youth Fly Fishing Team that won gold medals in Bosnia (2023), in the Czech Republic (2024) and in Idaho (2025) earlier this month for the three-peat. In this episode, coach Miller discusses his introduction to fly fishing, his journey through the ranks of competitive fly fishing, and digs into his simplified nymphing system. Josh carries only a few fly patterns indifferent sizes, weights, and colors. In his mind there’s often no need to change the fly pattern, the better choice is to make a better presentation.

00:00:03.000 --> 00:01:16.320: Hi, I'm Ross Purnell, editor and publisher of Fly Fisherman Magazine. Welcome to Loop to Loop, where we take a deep dive into the people and the stories behind the magazine. We're sponsored today by Patagonia. They have some great new waders out, the Swift Current Traverse and Swift Current Expedition. Expedition's right behind me. You need to check out these waders. They're super tough. I've been wearing the Traverse for almost a year now, everywhere from New Zealand to Argentina, to crawling around on my hands and knees here in Pennsylvania. They work like a charm, and I love how their new stealth switch packs are so integrated with the waders. You can wear them on your suspenders, and they work great as a great package, and they're all made without forever chemicals. So they're PFAS free, so we don't have those nasty little microparticles getting in our waterways and into our fish and into our bodies.
00:01:01.280 --> 00:02:19.080: We are also sponsored today by G. Loomis, American made fly rods manufactured in Woodland, Washington. I've been using these rods ever since Steve Rajeff got me started on them basically 25, 30 years ago. Currently in my quiver, I've got some NRX Plus, Asquith, and IMX Pros. They've got a lot of amazing rods designed for specific situations. If you haven't tried some of these rods, give them a shot.
