The Atlantic Striped Bass Management Board of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) recently finalized Amendment 7 of the of the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass. According to the American Saltwater Guides Association (ASGA), it was an overwhelming positive outcome largely due to the supporting public comments.

“We are thrilled to announce that the Striped Bass Management Board just approved Amendment 7 with almost all of our preferred alternatives,” said an ASGA Facebook post. “This is an amazing outcome for striped bass and all the fishing communities and businesses that depend on them. The stock is now on the right path toward a sustainable and abundant future.”

Amendment 7 will likely be the governing document for Atlantic striped bass management over the next 20-ish years. Click here to read Fly Fisherman’s previous articles about the current state of Atlantic stripers and how we got here.

“There seemed to be a clear consensus in favor of conservation and rebuilding and addressing issues with the stock quickly,” added ASGA President John McMurray.
