A new Orvis Fly-Fishing Podcast dropped on Friday featuring Wade Fellin of the Big Hole Lodge and several conservation organizations that does a superb job of covering the complicated issues facing Montana's Jefferson River drainage. It covers the extent of the trout declines, possible causes, and potential solutions, in great detail.
"Wade shares with us how they are obtaining samples of trout to send to a lab, and some possible reasons for this problem, and what might be done to address the issue," says the podcast writeup. "He also makes it clear that trout fishing in Montana is still awesome and that people should not cancel a trip or not plan a trip. Fishing is still great but we need to perhaps take even more care in releasing fish—and in deciding how many fish to catch in any given day."
Fellin takes a fair and non-accusatory tone to inform us of the potential causes from all of the involved communities and stakeholders. He also covers what is currently being done about it, and what we can all be doing right now to help these endangered fish. Listen here:
