More Effective Angling with SA's New All-Purpose "Satin Creamsicle" Fly Line

Scientific Anglers’ highest-performing, most durable all-around smooth trout taper is the Amplitude Infinity. It comes in a standard color even the most stealthy New Zealand guide would appreciate—10 feet of camo on the tip, a buckskin head, and a bamboo-color running line. With this line, the trout might see it and ignore it as they would a stick or piece of grass. Trout ignore a lot of things as they drift past.

However, “stealth” lines of any type have small disadvantages, particularly for beginning fly fishers. A brightly colored fly line is easier for us to see and easier to focus your attention on. With a bright fly line, it’s easier to see your loop unroll in the air and make corrections as needed. A fly line that is easier to see helps you gauge distance better. It can be an aid to help your fly land on target. During the drift, a brightly colored fly line can act as a locator to help you find your fly, and because you can better see what’s going on in all light conditions, it can help you make more effective mends (not too little, not too much) and it can help you track your fly when you are streamer fishing or nymphing.

These are all reasons why Scientific Anglers has a new color scheme for its Infinity Taper. The satin orange head and Creamsicle orange tip on its new Amplitude Smooth Orange fly lines are much easier to see, and in many cases, can help you be a more effective fly fisher. Experts should take note as well, if you are dry-fly fishing correctly, a rising trout should never see your fly line. A long leader and accurate casts ensure that the color of the line is not a factor. The color of this half-size heavy line is also perfect for nymphing and can allow you to fish without an indicator, and spook fewer fish.

The new Infinity Smooth Orange lines are available in weights 3 through 8. For Hexagenia hatch aficionados, you can also get a version with an optic green rear section and an ivory tip that glows in the dark. There is also a version with a stealthy buckskin tip, and an optic green/mist green head and running line to use as a visual aid as outlined above.
