Don’t call this a rain jacket. The Simms G4 Pro Wading Jacket is a stormproof wear-all-day fishing jacket that can deal with sideways driving rain, whiteout snow, and any cold that winter trout and steelhead fishing can produce. The new jacket has updated 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric, making it lighter than previous incarnations, but with better abrasion resistance and tear strength to stand up to Russian olives, multiflora rose bushes, and barbed wire. The new version has similar storage space to the previous G4, but it’s now more streamlined with two large zippered chest pockets for fly boxes, a stash pocket on the sleeve, and two zippered microfleece lined hand warmer pockets. Inside, there are two stretch-woven, drop-in pockets and a zippered stash pocket. There’s also a built-in chamois for your sunglasses, and a clever vertical flip-out fly patch that seamlessly tucks away when not in use. Watertight shingle cuffs seal your wrists against rain, and a three-point adjustable storm hood clamps down around your baseball cap to keep the rain out in the most challenging conditions. $550 | simmsfishing.com
