Everyone is fishing in a sun shirt these days. They are comfortable, functional, and just like a good rain jacket or an insulated jacket in their respective seasons, a good sun shirt keeps you on the water longer, and most importantly, protects your skin so you’re ready to go at it on day #2. If you already knew all of that, you likely already have a shirt from the previous generation of Simms SolarFlex products . But the whole lineup has had a serious upgrade with new materials, new colors, and new designs for a new summer of fishing.
The new SolarFlex Guide Hoody is built with Simms’s highest-performing solar protective knit fabric. It’s 92% polyester/8% spandex, 143 GSM that is rated UPF 50, which means it blocks 98 percent of the ambient ultraviolet radiation. The fabric is treated with HeiQ Fresh and HeiQ Stain Away to protect the shirt from sweat, fish slime, mud, algae, mustard, or whatever messes you might get into in a boat or on a riverbank. And it dries fast—that’s part of the magic that makes this shirt feel cool.
It has a three-panel hood and an integrated sungaiter so you can never forget yours at home. It’s always there for you to pull up and offer full protection. The gaiter has laser-cut breathing holes to prevent fogged sunglasses and an over-the-top “stay strap” keeps the hood and gaiter in place, even while running in a boat. The extra-long sleeves cover the wrists and the backs of your hands, and the comfortable thumbholes keep the sleeves in place while you’re casting and/or poling.
The SolarFlex Guide Hoody comes in six sizes up to 3XL and in five new colors, including three low-key colors—cinder, sky, and sea breeze—and two brazen standout color schemes called sunrise and fish finder seaport. Cinder is basically gray with a camo gaiter. Sunrise is electric strike indicator orange. Fish finder seaport is bright blue with patterned shoulders and sleeves.
