The Ultimate Bonefish Leader

Bonefish LeaderThis bonefish leader formula works great for me and can be used in many different salt water applications fishing for redfish, sea trout, snook and many other species.  The video below shows you step by step how to build one yourself and breaks down the number of turns per sections on the blood knots. Many anglers love this video so check it out.  The diameters of the mono I like to use to build my bonefish leaders are below.

I like to blood knot all the sections together and use a perfection loop on the butt section connection to the fly line. I also like to make each section an equal length as so transfer energy smoothly all the way to the fly.

Leader Diameter Break Down

Hard stiff mono

30# - 2ft = .027

25# - 2ft = .024

20# - 2ft = .021

15# - 2ft = .018

13# - 2ft = .015

18# Seaguar Grand Max Fluorocarbon Carbon — 2ft = .012
