This 8-step tutorial guides you through tying this UV-set-polymer-coated fly.

1. Clip a bundle of Super Hair and hold the bundle in your fingertips. Start your tying thread around the base of the clump and build a narrow, tight band of thread and whip-finish it. Tie this tail section to the hook shank and wrap forward over the stub ends to the hook eye.

2. Use cross wraps to tie in a set of melted and painted monofilament eyes about two eye lengths back from the hook eye.

3. Dub a thick body from the base of the tail to the hook eye, using cross wraps to dub around the eyes. End with the bare thread hanging near the center of the body.

4. Tie in four strands of Sili Legs on the bottom of the body, and on top of the dubbing. Spiral wrap the thread to separate the front and back bunches of legs, and leave a well-defined space between the two groups.

5. Apply a bit more dubbing over where you tied in the legs. Tie in a second bunch of Super Hair, about the same length as the first, at the center of the body. Keep the thread wraps one on top of the other and cinch them down tightly before whip-finishing directly on top of these wraps.

6. Apply a thin base coat of Clear Cure Goo (CCG) to the top of the Super Hair carapace using the brush applicator. This first coat should soak into the Super Hair and down into the dubbing. I try to get a rough outline of a diamond shape across the top of the fly. Work the CCG into position, then apply the UV light for 10 seconds to set the resin.

7. Apply a second, heavier coat of CCG, first using the brush, and fine-tuning the shape with a bodkin. The second coat should be slightly domed across the top and tapered front to back.

8. Use the UV light to set the top coat of resin, then lift the back of the Super Hair and trim it at an angle so the ends taper into the tail section. Trim the front of the carapace to a point extending beyond the hook eye. Trim the Sili Legs to about two hook gaps in length, and protect the thread band on the tail with a drop of CCG. Use a brush to pick out the dubbing along the bottom of the fly.
