Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC), a national nonprofit organization that protects rivers and streams in the American West , announced today that it is searching for a new president. WRC's co-founder and long-time president, Sue Doroff, is retiring after 35 years with the organization. Under Doroff's leadership, WRC has protected over 400 river miles and 197,000 acres of land in eight western states.
"Leaving WRC is difficult beyond words, but the moment is right,” Doroff said in a press release. “WRC is stronger and more capable today than at any time in its history. Whoever takes the oars will have the rare opportunity to lead an organization that is making a true difference for the rivers of the American West."
The incoming president, who will be accountable to the board of directors, will assume overall responsibility for the organization's financial stability, programmatic initiatives, and day-to-day operations. The role requires a skilled negotiator well-versed in intricate real estate transactions, equipped with the business acumen essential for skillfully navigating complex political landscapes. In their leadership capacity, the president will rally the board, staff, and supporters around WRC's mission, fostering a results-driven environment with a keen focus on river conservation.
"The beauty of working at Western Rivers Conservancy is that you get to see the tangible impact you're making every time we conserve a stretch of river, and know that it will be protected for generations,” board chair Jim Smith said.
