YETI’s relatively new Wheeled Roadies amazingly are still portable despite being large. That’s thanks to the quality suitcase-like wheels and telescoping handle that lets you bring it where you want with ease. There are new accessories as well, including a cooler divider, external cupholders, and a dry-storage basket that sits on the upper rim (and still closes). YETI also makes branded ice packs that fit perfectly. It even has a “BestDam” drain plug for melted-ice drainage, which is one of the most exciting additions.

This Roadie fits 76 cans (if cans only), 54 pounds of ice (only), and is wine-bottle compatible (and can hold an astonishing 15 bottles!). Roadies are also available as an unwheeled 24-liter and massive 60-liter versions, and in charcoal, navy, and white.

It easily doubles as a stool, chair, or table, which reduces the gear you need to bring.

Author and fly-casting coach Ed Jaworowski has been teaching and instructing for 45+ years, and before he took up fly casting he was a competitive surf caster. He wrote two seminal books on fly casting: The Cast (2005) and Perfecting the Cast (2021). Ed Jaworowski's Functional Fly Casting Part 2: Rotation & Leverage

In the previous video, I discussed the nature of acceleration. Now I'll build on that by looking at an essential feature of acceleration which, for convenience, I'll simply term "rotation," although we could call it "pivoting," or simply "turning." By using your whole body and rotating at the waist, you use your hips as a fulcrum for better performance. The idea isn't always to cast longer or harder, the goal is to cast smarter. Golfers, tennis players, and baseball players all use their bodies to increase efficiency while using class 3 levers. Good fly casters should do the same. This is the second in a series of five articles examining the physics and mechanics that determine the outcomes of all casts, based on Ed Jaworowski's nearly 70 years of casting, testing, experimentation, teaching, and consulting with physicists, kinesiologists, and engineers.

Sometimes I get in a slump and get tier's block trying to produce subjects for this column. Picking the fly to write about is the most difficult part, as it must be something that ideally shows some new or unusual technique, is innovative and, most importantly, compelling to me. As usual, I search far and wide, perusing new patterns from all the fly manufacturers, going through my own fly boxes, and asking around in the shop, so it makes me feel particularly dumb to have overlooked Max Beauchene's new Mess Maker pattern, which he came up with a couple of summers ago. Max's Mess Maker is a caddis/attractor with a reverse-ribbed body and forward-facing wing.

Sometimes the hardest part of perfecting a new fly is knowing when to stop tinkering and call it good. One of Craven's favorite mentors, John Barr, epitomizes this trait and there is nary a material in any of his flies that doesn't have a good reason to be there. The same goes for Pat Dorsey and Lance Egan. Their flies are minimalistic in materials, simple to tie, and mimic naturals without any unnecessary window dressing. His latest offering, dubbed the ᾽Lil Bit, does not feature complicated tying tricks or unusual materials, but is a simple and easy-to-tie nymph that catches trout like crazy.

It's vital to understand that, since fishing conditions and situations change endlessly, there can be no rigid or fixed rules or instructions for casting. You cannot specify where to start, move, or stop your arm or rod, or the direction and distance to move them, before deciding on the result you want from the cast. You must take various factors into account, including the fly being cast, the desired direction and distance, wind, any obstructions—whether overhead or to the side or rear—and more.

Carter entered hospice care in February of 2023 and exceeded expectations one final time by making it until now. Salmon Return to the Klamath River

With the Klamath River flowing completely free for the first time in over 100 years, the next question was how soon the salmon would return. It didn't take long. In October, scientists with CalTrout documented Chinook salmon beginning to migrate beyond the site of the former Iron Gate Dam for the first time since 1912. Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) then confirmed that on October 16 that a run of Chinook salmon was identified by biologists in a tributary of the Klamath River. Watch as Michael Wier and CalTrout document the dam removal and the amazing return of this sacred fish.
